You are bidding on a beautiful desk made of solid cherry. My mother is moving to a smaller place and is having to downsize. Although she hates to part with this beautiful furniture it just won't fit in the new townhome. It has been very well cared for. Oiled and dusted and kept in the living room. The top has a lock and key. When you want to put the top down t are slides on each side and you lay the top down on them. I was told this is called a "John Hancock" model. It has brass hardware. T are lots of little cubbies and drawers and the key locks the little door in the center. The center is also removable and reveals a secret compartment. T are 4 drawers on the lower part. It was made by Henkel Harris Company. For information on this family owned company see /stepInside.asp . My mom cannot recall the year she purchased it but knows it was shortly after she married my dad so mid 1960's. They bought it brand new. T is a label in a drawer that reads: Virginia Galleries Wild Black Cherry The Henkel-Harris Co.Winchester, Virgina Shop #1270-298 Style #6001 Finish #24 Inspected By #801 Deminsions are: Heigth 43", Width 20 3/4" with lid closed, Length 38", Width with the top open 35 1/2" If you have any questions or would like to see this piece in person or would like more pictures please feel free to ask.
