Hi Folks! I'm officially back from my summer of collecting vintage goodies for my ebay auctions. I have scoured many a field and have come up with bundles of treasure . . . this selling season promises to satisfy your appetite for high quality antiques & collectibles. Keep an eye out, every week, for a piece of the action. Franny You are viewing an exquisite pair of antique Black Forest carvings. These little gems are ornately carved walnut candle holders. This primitive duo dates back to the late 1800's. This vintage Swiss couple sports a magnificent game bird as the focal point of the stick. The animal looks like a cross between an eagle and a turkey. One of my favorite parts is the exaggerated thighs . . . whimsical and absolutely fabulous! The birds are bolstered between a symmetrical pair of urns set atop a pedestal of stylized acanthus leaves . . . superb. The chisel cuts are sharp, deep, and many allowing for spectacular play of light and shadow. Although identical, at a glance, the sticks actually showcase modest irregularities and differences due to the nature of the naïve hand carving. The color is a decadent and nutty chocolate with scant undertones of grain lines blackened by age . . . lovely.
