This huge oil painting on canvas depicts the Black Madonna with the Divine Child. Small angels hold the crowns on their heads. The Virgin directs attention away from herself, gesturing with her right hand toward Jesus as the source of salvation. In turn, the child extends his right hand toward the viewer in blessing while holding a book of gospels in his left hand. This Virgin is known as the one Who Shows the Way. The history of the Peruvian painting has its origins at the colonial era.
