Black Oxfords (Pathe , 1924). One Sheet (27 X 41 ). This Mack Sennett comedy starred Marceline Day in her first major role. Day, whose older sister is film actress Alice Day, was popular during the late 20s and the early 30s, playing opposite such major stars as Buster Keaton, John Barrymore, Harry Langdon, and Stan Laurel. Her most famous role was as Buster Keaton s leading lady in 1928 s The Cameraman. This beautiful stone litho features a gorgeous shot of Day and an aspiring comic named Sid Smith, who died prematurely in 1928 from bad Prohibition-era alcohol. There is minor fold line wear and an area of paper loss, about the size of a quarter, at the center fold line intersection. The poster has had professional restoration, rendering these minor defects hard to detect. This poster is a wonderful example of silent era artistry. Fine/Very Fine on Linen.
