This is a 12" white with brown tip, scrimshaw powder horn with sailing ships on both sides . The scrimshaw ships are 5" long and 3" tall, each with three ship masts with sails and rigging. Each ship is slightly different on each side. They have been free hand drawn. T are various designs at the base and tip. This horn is small in length but makes up for it in girth. It will hold a lot of powder. The base plug is made of hard wood, hand fitted and held in place with brass tacks. This end has a removable threaded bass plug to allow filling of powder. The tip is also brass with a sealed "O" ring plug, making it moisture proof. The strap is made of a portion of 1" wide braided leather, wrapped with red and green wool and with beaded feather tassels that ad to the decorative features. The strap is of my own design and they fancy up a horn considerabily. This is a functional horn to be used, but will look good also as a wall hanger in a den, cabin or at primitive shoots or rendevous. Many of these have been purchased as unique gifts. I sent one to England w it is being used in schools teaching Early American history. My scrimshaw horns are totally hand made one at a time with none exactly alike. These are not mass produced. Each horn takes about a week to finish after several stages of construction. I produce nine other series of horns: LEWIS & CLARK , FRENCH & INDIAN WAR, YUKON CHARLEY RIVERS, NORTHERN PLAINS BUFFALO HUNTER , AMERICAN MOUNTAIN MAN FREE TRAPPER, ROCKY MOUNTAIN ELK HUNTER, S&J HAWKEN RIFLES, ROCKY MOUNTAIN FUR CO. and DAVID THOMPSON, EXPLORER series. My horns are all numbered, dated and signed. The scrimshaw is done with hand tools, one inch at a time and finished in india ink. The inscription will not wear off. I have had to raise my minimum bid due to a recent increase in material costs from suppliers. I have NO RESERVE. Buyer to pay fixed shipping cost of $6.00 USA.
