What I have is a blackpowder blasting / splitting wedge. I have never used one of these or seen one in action, but it is my understanding that you pour blackpowder in one end of the wedge, put some wadding in to plug the hole in the wedge end, drive it into the end of your log, put in a piece of cannon fuse, light it and get out of the way. They tell me it will split a log completely in half. Sounds like a good time, huh? Anyway, I have did my best to take photos of this and if you have any questions feel free to ask. This particular wedge is approx. 12" long x 1 3/4 " in dia. and seems to me to be in pretty good condition, but I'm no expert on these things so if you intend to use it, your at your own risk, I don't know if its safe or not. T is some mushrooming on the driving end, but it seems to be minimal. I can't tell for sure if t is any welding around the fuse hole or not. It could just be were some metal has chipped loose due to being
used over the years. I took a photo of this area, but I'll let you be the judge to what you think it is. Other than that I didn't notice any signs of welding. I have another wedge very similar to this that IS NOT FOR SALE that I intend to keep for myself, and down in the wedge area of the device are the words: HUTCHINSON MFG. CO. POH? PA. Anyway, what I'm getting at is, this wedge that I'm selling has the same style of wedge area and I can make out a few of the letters and it seems to be of the same manufacturer. Again, if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them. Thanks for looking!!
