ITEM: The original cover layout for Blondie Comics #53 from April 1953. This authentic golden age cover has an image area of about 7 by 10.5 inches, with the artboard somewhat larger. It is composed entirely of photostats, except for a portion of Dagwood's lower left arm which is hand drawn. Color scan shows the published cover so you can see that only a few pasteups are missing; the published comic book cover is not included in this auction.CONDITION: The cover is in overall good condition. Some pasteups are loose around the edges and can easily be glued down if you wish. The pasteups are lightly tanning from age, as seen on the scan. Because of how the words "World Famous" and the Harvey logo at the top were printed over the balloons, they would have been on a separate overlay which is not present. BACKGROUND: If you collect Harvey art, you know that about 70% of all Harvey covers exist as only the main illustration. They usually are missing logos and most if not all of the related captions, dates and other text because Harvey had a practice of removing these items from a published cover and using them for subsequent issues. Very few Harvey covers exist completely intact and a cover like this, missing only a few items, is uncommon. HOW TO PAY: PayPal or Postal Money Order.
