Up for sale is a wonderful, rare 4 Gallon Blue and White Saltglazed Stoneware Ice Water Cooler in the Apple Blossom pattern . It measures approximately 15 3/4" from the top of the lid to the bottom of the Water Cooler, 13 1/4" in height without the lid, 11 1/4" in diameter. The front denotes the Apple Blossom pattern framing the words "ICE WATER" in script. On the back is the number "4" ( 4 gallon capacity) inside a Laurel Wreath. On the piece overall is a diamond/lattice work design. T is a Chain and Rope design around the body of the Cooler, at the top and bottom. The spigot has the unusual fishtail-end handle with slight pitting. T are natural variances in shadings overall. The lid has 4 sets of blossoms, ribs running from top to edges, and the knob is in the shape of a blossom. Pictures 6 and 11, show the underside of the lid, which is pristine. It has a very small chip approximately 3/8" on the inside of the curve, hardly noticeable. Picture 12 shows a VERY tight hairline, smooth to the fingernail test. We didn't even know this existed until brought into the sunlight for pictures. It does NOT go through to the under side and in no way does it detract from the appearance. On the top of the lid, is an 1/8" glaze pop and a short section of missing glaze spots. Picture 9 shows a magnified view of the embossed Apple blossom pattern on the body of the cooler. The mark on the left appears to be a missed glaze spot about 1/8" and to the right, is merely a dab of coloring, NOT a flaw. Picture 7 shows the perfect, clean interior of this cooler, with the spigot shown at the upper center. Picture 10 shows a bubble pop, approxiamtely 1/8", on the side of the cooler. Miraculously, the bottom of this cooler has NO CHIPS whatsoever - which is VERY hard to find!!!! Folks - this is in GREAT shape for a water cooler that has been around for perhaps a 100 years!! We assume this was made in the US around the turn of the century. This piece was bought in Bay City, Michigan in 1982, with money that should have gone to pay the mortgage for that month and has been loved ever since. It looks great on a kitchen countertop! Any white glare/spots are from my camera. Thanks for looking and good luck! The actual water cooler weighs 22#. We estimate packing materials to be between 6-8#. The actual shipping amount will be determined with the zipcode of the winner. Insurance will be required and will be determined by amount of the final sale price. As an added description on this cooler - please check out Page 30 in the "Blue and White Stoneware" book, an Identification and Value Guide", by Kathryn McNerney, that every Blue and White collector has, right?! That picture IS this cooler, with a few minor differences. I don't see the diamond/lattice work design on the cooler in the picture.
