You are bidding on the "GIRAFFE" from Blue Mountain Pottery - Noah's Ark Collection. Pieces from the Noah's Ark Collection are highly prized and are getting very difficult to find. (Please see my other BMP Noah's Ark Listings) This GIRAFFE, in BMP's famous glaze, has the prettiest brown tail and stripe down it's back. It is in good condition but has a small chip / rough spot on the side of it's nose and the red clay shows through. This little guy is missing the protective wooden base resulting in a few flea bites / small chips around the edges of the feet. The overall size of this piece is approx 3 1/4" across the feet and approx 9 3/4" tall. Blue Mountain Pottery, located in Collingwood, Ontaion was Canada's largest manufacturer of quality giftware pottery from its introduction in 1947 until the plant closed for good December 2004 ending a 57 year business. It produced various types of pottery, from animal figurines to jugs, pots and vases. The company's products have a large fan base and are collected world-wide. Blue Mountain Pottery items were available in the traditional green hues, but also in Harvest Gold, Cobalt Blue, Mocha, Pewter, Red, and Brown. Located in Collingwood, Ontario, the uniqueness of Blue Mountain Pottery is a combination of the rich red clay, used in the moulding of the items. Blue Mountain Pottery items feature a unique, trademarked glazing process known as "reflowing decorating". According to the information sheets, two different liquid glazes, one light and one dark in color, were applied to create the various shades of colour. During the firing process the lighter glaze runs as it passes through the darker glaze, creating streaking patterns unique to each piece. It is nearly impossible to have to two pieces identical because of this process making each piece unique in itself. All sales are final so please ask any questions PRIOR to bidding.
