Blue Star Sapphire Up for Auction : In this ring, ¼ carat diamonds surround a beautiful Genuine Antique and very rare Blue Star Sapphire, set in 14-karat white gold. This ring is over 60 years old and belonged to my grandmother. I don't know much more about it, b/c I don't have a certificate for it. It is genuine and not the fake sapphires that you see so many of now days. A way to tell the difference between the fake blue star sapphires and the real ones, is to look at the bottom is at the bottom of the sapphire. The fake blue star will have an L stamped on the bottom of it. ( /bstsph.htm ) If you look closely at the picyures, you can see the star! It is a very beautiful ring. Fun History Few gems capture the imagination as does sapphire. Sapphire's beauty inspired people to wonder. Ancient cultures had many lore and beliefs about the sapphire. The ancient Persians believed the earth rested on a giant sapphire whose reflection gave the sky its color. Ancient priests and sorcerers honored sapphire above all gems, for this stone enabled them to interpret oracles and foretell the future. Symbolizing truth, sincerity and tradition, it has been said that when Moses received the Ten Commandments they rested on tablets of sapphires. Marriage partners put great faith in the stone. If its luster dimmed, one knew his or her spouse had been unfaithful. Sapphire refused to shine when worn by the wicked or impure. The ancients viewed star sapphires as powerful talismans, which guided and protected travelers and seekers on their quests. They were said to protect their original owner even after they changed into other hands. What can be a better gift than that? Feel free to email me with any questions.
