This is an Amazing Piece! Don't Let this One Slip By! A MUST for a Keokuk Geode Collector! Barite Rose! This Geode is approx. 4 inches diameter 1 lb 2.2 oz This Barite is Blue in the center and White on the edges. A twinning effect is what caused the Rose effect. EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY RARE!! Barite - barium sulfate, BaSO 4 Habits are often tabular and diamond shaped with beveled edges. Colors are white, colorless, light shades of blue, yellow, red. Transparent to translucent. Quartz - silicon dioxide, SiO 2 Crystals may have double terminated points, twined, and the rarest diamond shaped crystals, hexagonal dipyramid (a quartzoid). Quartz is usually colorless to white, transparent to translucent, but frequently colored by impurities and then can be any color. It also has electrical properties ( piezoelectric and pyroelectric ). EXTREMELY RARE to find a BLUE BARITE!! It is NOT a Common Occurence of the Keokuk Geodes!! This was Mined out of the Shale in a Multi-Mineral Location. Some Great Stuff comes out of t! 340 million years ago this geode was beginning to form in the Warsaw Formation around the Keokuk, Iowa area. Geodes from Keokuk Iowa area have an outer shell of chalcedony. The weaker host rock, such as the Shale Layer, erodes away then the geodes "weather out" and are left behind.
