From an Estate Sale, offered for auction today is a Lovely colored Blue and White Spongeware Stoneware Tankard or Pitcher. Circa 1850.This has very precise sponging created an eye catching pattern. The color if very good, from light to medium blue. Even a couple flecks are almost cobalt mixed in. Unfortunately, this isn't without flaws. It has a nice flared shape.T is a series of sizable chips running along the inside top rim on the backside (when the handle is to the right). The total length of all is about 2 5/8" long and about 3/8" long. The depth ranges from barely a flake to maybe 1/8". One section of it crosses the top edge and runs over to the outside w it creates a small flake on the outside, but more importantly, a sizable hairline which measures about 4 1/2". About an inch over is another hairline that measures about 6 1/4" going straight down then curving. This beauty obviously took a good tumble. Again, the large majority of the chips/flakes is on the inside. I've capture all in the pictures below. The cracks look heavier in the pictures than they are as I took a very close up picture. T's a tiny flake on the top edge opposite side from the bad section and another on the outside bottom edge. T's also a green spot in the white that is under the glaze. Normal fleabite and a couple clay pops.The picture w I show the spout read more
