Blue & White Porcelain Wine Jar 17th Century Shipwreck China This wonderful porcelain wine jar is Chinese, and dates back to the 17th century. T is a typical peasant village scene painted on the jar that shows two fisherman with a mountainous backdrop. The calligraphy writing on the back of the bottle is a poem, which has been roughly translated for us by our friend in China. This wine jar is part of a large selection of items we purchased from a Hawaiian Estate. This bottle was collected by an older couple that moved back to China, and did not at that time wish to risk taking their items home. The jar is in excellent condition for its age, and without any chips, cracks or repairs. T is some localized, slight discoloration on the glaze from being in the ocean for so long, as is to be expected, but this bottle still retains its bright cobalt color. Stylistically we would put it in the Kangxi Emperor time period, as the lines were first drawn in, then the cobalt was bled into the lines. We had three of these wine bottles, and the one with coral growing inside was sold to a local collector, and can be verified. The jar stands 10-3/4" high and is 4-1/2" in diameter, with a 1-1/4" opening at the top.
