Leyendecker Pictures ~ You are bidding on a bound volume containing the November - April issues of THE CENTURY ILLUSTRATED MONTHLY MAGAZINE from 1905/1906. The volume itself measures about 7" by 9¾". The volume is bound with a reddish-marble hardboard. The tips and spine are reinforced with a black material. Library marks are present. The edges of the cover show some wear. The Leyendecker prints all have library stamps on them The Century was one on the 19th centurys most popular magazines. It was the successor to Scribners Monthly and it continued publication until the 1930s. It was renowned for its excellent articles and among other things, for its beautiful engraved illustrations. T is very in depth coverage of the Civil War. Many authors had their works published for the first time in The Century. From the first Century Magazine made much of its illustrations, and both directly and by the effect on its competitors, its advent had much to do with the improvement of American engraving and printing.
