Hi t, Another dazzling piece Bohemian garnet jewelry from my collection... From the outermost point of the tip of the butterfly's wing span from side to side is a full 2". And, from the highest part of it's antennae to the bottom pointed part of its body is 1 and 1/2" long. The body itself is made of 5 graduating cabochon garnets, smaller at the bottom and larger on up. When taking pictures of the brooch, I noticed slightly different colors of garnets throughout the wing span, which is so unusual. Typically, in the finest quality Bohemian garnet jewelry you'll find perfectly matched garnets in both color and size. So, I asked myself, what's up? I pulled out my trusted magnifying glass and took a look and viola! The reason for the slightly lighter colored garnets strategically positioned throughout all three levels of the butterfly's wing span: the rounded part at the bottom, the somewhat rectangular section in the middle, and in the graceful but I don't know how to describe the top and largest portion, is that they are small cobochon, round, smooth, dome shape garnets, and the rest are rose-cut, multifaceted garnets that best refract the light). So t you have it. Those cobochon garnets in the wing span are t to complement the butterfly's body made of cabochon garnets. What's so amazing is the cabochon garnets are set in the exact place - in the wing span - on both sides of its body. And in the side picture, you can see its body is slightly raised, and the delicate round cobochon garnets peeking out..
