An Important Exhibition Catalog, In Crummy Shape - “American Folk Art. A Collection of Paintings and Sculpture Produced by Little-Known and Anonymous American Artists of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Centuries” By Edith G. Halpert. Published by Colonial Williamsburg in 1940. description continues below the picture- - - - DISCUSSION: Mrs. John D. Rockefeller began collecting folk art in 1931, and in 1940 she gave her entire collection to Colonial Williamsburg. The bulk of the collection as presented in this very early catalog was made up of paintings and watercolors, with pastels, weathervanes and sculpture also included. DESCRIPTION: Softcover. 6"x9", 50 pages, black & white illustrations. CONDITION NOTES: Some moisture wear and soil -no smell, but the catalog was wet at some point and is now somewhat stained and water-waved. Please see the photos for an idea of the problems.
