An important and rare reference book ' American Biography containing the lives and characters of the American Revolution who were most distinguished in achieving our national independence' also the life of Gilbert Motier La Fayette. Published in Cincinnatti for B.Crosby and printed at the Chronicle Office in 1831. This is not the modern, print on demand reprint. Full leather binding is tight and original with gold leaf detailing. No chips or tears and some general age wear, but no major stains or any noted repairs. Spine is not broken and marbled end papers are tight. Some foxing and age spots and some water staining to the bottoms of some pages but it is not present on the binding. Original black and white engravings are present. 615 pages with index. Named to the personal library of early American pioneer Gideon Devol. This is a classic volume that documents the primary officers of the revolutionary army and the actions they served in. A must for collectors of early American militaria and those that do research on the revolution.
