ITEM DESCRIPTION:A great addition to any collection! We have two items that are both VERY collectible. The first is an original copy of The Book of Baseball P. F. Collier & Son Publishers, New York, 1911. First Edition . Hardcover. Front board is detached. A great early baseball book that traces the origins of the game through the 1911 season. This 159 page book contains 130+ illustrations including two two-page photographs and a frontis titled, "Opening of the Season," drawn by Charles Dana Gibson. Original color illustrated paper over boards with burgundy cloth spine, cover illustration of a batter and catcher. Contents include the early days of the game, the National League, the American League and earlier rivals of the Nationals, the 1910 season, the art of pitching, star plays and players, troubles of umpires, the minor leagues and much more. There are team photos, ballpark photos, game action photos, and photos of individual players including Ty Cobb, Cy Young, Joe Jackson, Christy Mathewson, Tug McGraw, Walter Johnson, and Connie Mack. Interestingly, this book does not credit Abner Doubleday with creating the modern game of baseball. This is a well used copy. Front board is detached, boards are soiled, stained, scratched, rubbed, and worn. Rear board is still attached to the spine, but is separated from the text block. Frontis is detached and chipped on all edges with creases and tears, one of which touches the drawing. Faint mildew odor. The interior pages have some random spots and stains.The second part of this lot is a 1963 New York Yankees Autographed Clubhouse Signature Ball. Does show wear and age but signatures are all in tact and readable. A couple of them are very faint. The signatures include Yankees legends Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Harry Bright, Bill Stafford, Al Downing, Tony Kubek, Bud Daley, Jim Bouton, Elston Howard, Hector lopez, Clete Boyer, Whitey Ford, Bobby Richardson, Stan Williams, Steve Hamilton, Phil Linz, Joe Pepitone, Johnny Blanchard, Ralph Terry, and others. 25 signatures in all!PAYMENT:Payment via PayPal is expected within 2 days on all auctions.
