Extremely rare original Book of Common Prayer predecessor, Knox's Scottish Liturgy published in Edinburgh, Scotland in the year 1635. The title page states: "Printed at Edinburgh by the Heires of Andrew Hart, Anno Dom. 1635." This book was outlawed by King Charles in 1637 when the Act of Revocation was passed. Laud's Book of Common Prayer published in 1637 was ordered to be the official book of the Church of England / Scotland and this book was ordered to be destroyed. The typed index card was found inside the book. The previous owner of this book was an antiques dealer who recently passed away and this was among his collection. I believe the note card was with the book at the sale or auction where the antiques dealer bought the book. As it states it describes two books this 1635 book and a later published book, the dealer must have purchased the 1635 book and kept the note card as a book mark / reminder of the sale where he purchased it. The fact that the information is on a typed index card leads me to believe that the previous owner must have acquired the book at least 25 to 30 years ago. The book has some very early writing in it from one of the original owners. As you can see on the title page it is written "Jean Grant her Book." Ms. Grant may have been the original owner in 1635? I don't know. There is also some underlining and other marks that appear to be made by the same pen as the writing by Ms. Grant. The writing does not obscure any of the print and the book appears to be complete. On the inside of the front cover it states "Bound for William Brown Edinburgh." I have not been able to locate another copy of this book in my research. Thanks for looking. The dimensions of the book are 6 and 1/2 inches by 4 and 1/2 inches by 1 and 1/2 inches approximately.
