You are bidding on a softcover book entitled Santa Fe inthe Mountains - Three Passes of the West: Raton, Cajon, and Tehachapi by George Drury. The Atchinson, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway of the 1950’s stretched across prairies and deserts for the most part; its encounters with mountains were brief but spectacular. Raton Pass, on the Colorado-New Mexico border, was short and steep. Cajon Pass, Santa Fe’s entrance to southern California, was steep and long and busy. The Santa Fe reached northern California by sharing Southern Pacific’s line over the Tehachapi Mountains, one of a handful of routes in North America on which a train makes a complete circle and crosses over itself. All three mountain crossings were magnets that attracted the best photographers -- and they sent their best work to Trains magazine. Santa Fe in the Mountains brings 120 of those vintage black & white photographs of steam and diesel action directly to you! Accompanying the photos in this 128-page volume, you’ll find a brief history of the Santa Fe and of the three passes, plus a look at railroad operations at each location. The book was published in 1995 by Kalmbach Books. The covers show light wear; otherwise, this item is in very good condition. Buyer pays $4.75 shipping in the U.S…and check out my other eBay railroad auction items. Thanks for looking!
