Check out my other items ! Auction Description: "Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn" POMPEIAN BRONZE CO. CIRCA 1920-1930 Paul Herzel Artist, Signed on top Guaranteed to be old and original Pompeian. It is my please to bring this extremely rare set of Pompeian Bronze Company Samuel Langhorne Clemens or better know as Mark Twain "Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn bronze clad bookends. This set has been listed in the Encyclopedia of Bookends by Louis Kurtizky and Charles DeCosta but displays only one character that being the mischievious Huck Finn with his corn cob pipe which could very well be a replacement, since I have never seen the original pipe on any set I have seen to date. Both characters were sold in sets of matched pairs and with both boys displayed together. This is the type of sets most clad collectors seek out for they rarely or never come up for sale on Ebay or other antique shops or sales unless with a lot of damage. This set stands 7.75 inches tall, 4.5 inches wide and 2.0 inches in depth. The retain their original dark blue Pompeian felt bottoms and one is still clearly marked with the red Pompeian Bronze signed foil label. The heigth of the pair appear to be much taller because of the two boys being tall and lean. The two boys both stand on a two tiered base with the front second tier displaying a Missouri river paddle boat obviously going up stream as it pours out a trail of smoke from its stack.Huck Finn is wearing a deep red pair of pants with a dark bluish green coat. He is carrying a fishing pole over his left shoulder and carrying a can of worms in his right hand. Tom Sawyer is wearing a rolled up long sleeved shirt and dark bluish green pants held up by suspenders and is carrying his fishing pole over his right shoulder and a string of fish in his left hand. Both boys are wearing their casual droopy fishing hats of the day. Also, both boys have their pants legs rolled up and barefoot. The tops of the bases are also painted a dark blue green color. Their is some slight scuffing to the base paint on one, but other than a few tiny clad dings as seen in the pictures, these are in wonderful 85 to 90 year old conditon. There are no breaks, cracks, tears, or missing parts of the cladding and the cladding remains extremely tight on the plaster interior moldings. After several inquires about the pipe I am venturing to say the original production from Pompeian never had pipes or cigars in the mouth of Huck since I have had one Huck Finn figure with no hole in the mouth for a pipe or cigar. It will be up to the buyer as to whether he or she thinks there should be a pipe or cigar much less a known foundry or studio original. Please feel free to email with questions, inquiries, or any additional information. I will professionally pack this item and will promptly ship via USPS. PLEASE OBSERVE ALL PICTURES FOR THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION AND DO NOT HESITATE EMAILING WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE ABOUT THIS SET. Winner on accepted offers must pay within 3 business days. AS ALL OF MY BRONZE CLAD SETS SOLD ON EBAY THEY WILL BE INSURED. PLEASE VIEW MY OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE . Have fun buying on Ebay!!!!
