Six Chippendale Armorial Bookplates, all dating from about the 1760s 1. Delabere F.8378 Dimensions of paper: 78x61mm Condition: Average. 2. James Bindley F.2541 A crescent for cadency. (1737-1818) Second son of John Bindley, distiller, of St John's Street, Smithfield, London. Educated at the Charterhouse and Peterhouse, Cambridge. BA 1759, MA 1762, and later fellow of his college. Through the interest of his elder brother John, he was in 1765 appointed one of the Commisioners of the Stamp Duties, and in 1781 rose to be the Senior Commissioner, holding this post until his death. Elected FSA 1765. Monument to his memory in St Mary-le-Strand. His interests as an important bibliophile are recorded in William Younger Fletcher's "English Book Collectors". This bookplate is believed to be the work of William Stephens of Cambridge, who produced so many mid-18th century bookplates. Dimensions of paper: 95x79mm Condition: Good. 3. Anon ( Oglander ) F.22222 Signed WH by William Haskoll of Winchester, associate of another noteworthy bookplate engraver, and cutler, Richard Mountaine.Probably the bookplate of Sir John Oglander 4th Bart. succ 1734 d.1767. Dimensions of paper: 92x77mm Condition: Very Good. 4. Charles Vere Dashwood F.8009 (1745-1821) Son of Robert Dashwood and Anne Lewes. High Sheriff in 1780.
