WONDERFUL example of an early Bowie knife and antique sheath. The blade on this knife is older, dating 1860-90, with a stunning early style clip, and is a full .25 inch thick at the base. The blade appears forged - not cast steel like an English knife - very likely American and possibly earlier than dated. The knife is incredibly thick and sturdy all together!!! Measures 12.1 inch overall, with the killer 6.6 inch blade that is 1/4 inch thick. There is a patina where the sheath rests also. The handle is some sort of early celluloid 1860-1900, however it looks like carved b-ne. I have not seen this pattern before and I have seen many knives. The knife was re-handled but it is difficult to say when, it was likely cracked at the base, then mounted. The knife has the "original" sheath with a lot of read more
