ROYAL DOULTON BOWL & PITCHER SET WATCHMAN OF THE NIGHT SERIES This listing is for a Royal Doulton pitcher and bowl set that I found at a local estate auction. It is from the Watchman of the Night series, and I haven't been able to find a photo of one exactly like it anyw The watchman on the front of the pitcher looks exactly like others I've seen both on Ebay and while searching the internet. He's holding a long stick with a pointed piece of metal like a spear on top and an oil lamp attached to the stick. On the back of the pitcher is a brown drawing of very old buildings in or around London. The top of the pitcher is the most colorful. T is a drawing of an oil lamp on the lip surrounded by stars and clouds on a blue background. It is then finished with a hand painted rim of gold. This pitcher has the Royal Doulton seal on the bottom which reads "Royal Doulton England" and lists No. 374874 twice and No. 383666. It measures 10.5" high and 11" at the widest point (handle to spout). It narrows only 1/2" to the widest point without the handle. The bowl has the saying, " Watchman What of the Night" repeated three times around the perimeter. The only additional adornment to the outside of the bowl is a border enclosing these sayings. The inside has a city scene, similar to the one on the back of the pitcher, repeated twice around the inner rim of the bowl with the buildings drawn simply in brown. The bowl has no numbers on the bottom which leads me to believe that the ones on the bottom of the pitcher refer to both pieces. The bowl measures 15" wide x 5.5" high and is on a base measuring 7" across. The condition of this pitcher and bowl set is near perfect. T are no cracks, or repairs or grazing anyw I found one tiny chip on the top rim of the pitcher that I photographed. I don't see any chips on the bowl anyw If anyone out t recognizes the pattern please let me know so I can get this accurate. I don't know that much about Royal Doulton except it's very well made and beautiful. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. I'm not a professional photographer by any means, so if you'd like more photos I'll do my best. SHIPPING Because of the combined weight of these two pieces the only option is via UPS Ground Shipment. You will be required to purchase insurance because the pieces are so fragile. I calculate my shipping price based on the actual postage plus a nominal fee that includes all the packing materials, boxes, etc. to insure the piece is packed as securely as possible. If you want me to try to ship the piece a different way just tell me what you want and I'll do my best to make the arrangements. CANADA, GREAT BRITTIAN.... Although I don't list a shipping charge to Canada or any other country, I'd be happy to work with you on an individual basis. I will try to ship anyw GUARANTY I want you to be satisfied with your purchase so I offer a guaranty. If the piece arrives broken or if I have described it incorrectly, just contact me. If we can't work it out I'll instruct you to ship it back. When I recieve the piece I will immediately issue a refund minus shipping. I just found out that the Watchman Series was introduced in 1899 and was manufactured until 1935. They continued to make a few items until 1945. So this piece is at least 62 years old. That makes its condition even more impressive to me; I hope this additional information helps you, too.
