This sign measures 20" x 19". BOYCE MOTO METER COMPANY BIO In 1912, George H. Townsend, president of the Moto Meter Co. Inc., began to manufacture the now collectible radiator motor temperature indicators. The Boyce Moto Meter products dominated the American motor vehicle industry for two decades when car manufactures such as Packard, Mercer and Stutz adopted these gauges as standard equipment. The company was so successful that a 1927 ad mentioned there was over 10 million of these gauges in operation. In the early years of internal combustion engines when there was no coolants or pressurized systems it was necessary to run the engine temperature 170-180 degrees since if the water temperature over 212 degrees it would boil the water and result in over-heating. The Boyce thermometer sensor did not extend down into the water but actually measured water vapor temperature. The result of this success was radiator caps with great graphics and details, which is the reason they are so collectable today. In the 30’s the Boyce Motor Meter gave way to in dash temperature meters. Since the design of modern cars at that time did not allow the gauges to be applicable. Here at RC Media Collectables we represent the largest collection of Coca Cola and other collectible items on the East Coast. Please Got Questions? Email us, or you can call:Thanks For Looking!
