Description This knife is made completely by hand, in my shop by me. It is hand forged from 5/8in. round W-2 high carbon steel in the "Hira Zukuri” pattern. This simply means "flat sided"..It is then clay tempered Japanese style to give it a soft core(46Rc +or-) and a hard edge(58-59Rc). This gives it good edge holding ability while being tough enough to not break under stress or impact. It is hand polished to display a bold frosty temper line or " hamon" with a nice turnback . . The knife is 8 1/2 inches long overall and blade is 4 inches long. The steel is 3/16 inch thick and just under 1 inch wide at the wrap. The blade has a nice gentle upward curvature. > The handle is comprised of black cotton epoxy impregnated tsuka ito cord wrap in traditional diamond pattern over black carbon fiber scales. This one is finished a kittle differently. It was ordered as a left handed knife and then he had to cancel the order. So the wrap starts on the left side and the menuki is on the left side. This does not mean it can’t be a right handed knife. It is just a little different looking this way. The menuki is a brass Japanese uniform button showing a nice lotus flower on it.
