Shobu Zukuri "Necker" The Shobu Zukuri Kwaiken was designed as a weapon that could be carried concealed in the clothing or openly. The Shobu (Iris leaf) shape is designed for maximum penetration and efficient slicing in soft mediums. It obviously is not a screw driver or pry bar. The spine is double beveled and grows thicker at the point for reinforcement. This little "Necker" is just a smaller version for more sedate uses and potential back up.
The knife is made completely by hand, in my shop by me. It is made from 1084 high carbon steel ..It is then heat treated by the clay resist hardening method and quenching in water . .This yields a tough blade that will hold a great edge. It also yields the classic Japanese hamon or temperline caused by the differential hardening. In this case an elegant "suguha" or straight hamon. The knife is 7" long overall and the blade length is 3 1/4" from the front of the handle material to the tip. It is 3/4" wide at the wrap.
The handle is comprised of black colored epoxied cotton tsuka ito over red sting ray skin. T is a mother of pearl menuki on the right side. I felt that this handle would look better without a turkshead knot and it will also conceal better without it.
