A spiritual treasure, worthy of the treasury of a major Cathedral: BEAUTIFUL BRASS RELIQUARY -WITH A RELIC OF THE HOLY SHROUD OF TURIN, BURIAL CLOTH OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST Rome, ca. 1730/1830 A wonderful piece from the private collection of a Tuscan nobleman who spent his life collecting relics and investigating the Turin Shroud: A brass silver altar reliquary, ca. 11 inches in height, an elegant piece with many fine details of the post-Napoleonic "Empire" style, obviously used as a replacement for the original (probably silver) reliquary which, as so many precious pieces, was confiscated during the French occupation of Italy in 1799. Inside is the original silver theca from 1725, when, on order of Pope Benedict XIII, a large fragment of the upper right corner of the Holy Shroud was removed for the creation of small reliquaries with single thread fragments like this one. It was sealed by a Roman Curia bishop of that period. In its center, behind crystal glass, surrounded by filigree paperoles and silver spiral decoration, is the rarest and most precious relic of Our Lord: A thread of the Holy Shroud of Turin! * De Sanctae Sindone DNJC: Of the Holy Shroud of Our Lord Jesus Christ The Holy Shroud is considered the most important relics of Christianity. Its existence is documented since the 6th century, when it was venerated in Edessa/Syria. According to the legend, the Apostle St. Jude Thaddeus (Addai in the local Aramaic dialect) brought it to the North Syrian city to be protected by king Abgar V., the first king in history who embraced Christianity and was baptized by the Apostle. In 944, it was brought to Constantinople, where it was depicted in the "Codex Pray" and described in the homilies of the Patriarchs and the reports of visitors. In 1204, during the 4th Crusade, it was stolen by the French knight Othon de la Roche from its reliquary in the Imperial Palace Chapel and brought to France via Athens. Since 1357, it was first venerated in Lirey/Champagne, then in Chambery before it was brought to Turin/Italy by the Savoy Dynasty in 1598. It was exposed the last time in April/May 2010, when Pope Benedict XVI visited Turin and prayed in front of it.The Turin Shroud, as it was called ever since, is probably the most carefully investigated historical object ever. Even state-of-the-art scientists have no explanation for the mysterious negative image, obviously created by a strong emission of light, "burned" into the linen. The only logical conclusion is that this happened during His glorious resurrection. Our 2nd picture shows the miraculous image on the Shroud on a negative, which reverses it to a photographic positive. The 12th picture shows the entire Holy Shroud. On the upper right edge you see the fragment which was removed during the Holy Year 1725 on order of Pope Benedict XIII., who used it to give out relics of the Holy Shroud. As per Ebay's new rules, this item is allowed as it contains no human remains but objects of devotion; the relic is of linen. Please note that you bid on the precious antique reliquary, the relics are a gift to the High Bidder. Please contact me if you have any questions. , the authenticity is guaranteed. Good luck and God bless you!
