Hi- I've had a lot of people inquire about this bed and just wanted to add that since the auction is ending soon, I welcome reasonable bids! If I don't receive any reasonable offers I will be selling it to an Antique shop, was, I'd much rather sell it to an individual who would appreciate it!! For Sale is a beautiful American (Victorian Era) Iron and Brass Bed. This bed is a genuine brass and iron bed which has had restoration work done to it. It was crafted in the early 1900's, although I do not know the exact year. Not only is this bed over a hundred years old; it'll last another hundred and more. The bed is completely structurally sound. It is not overly ornate and would be fantastic for a summer cottage or anyw, for that matter! ! This is a true antique which was purchased from a very reputable Antique store in Southampton, NY about 12 years ago. The bed is painted white with brass accents, including the brass balls. T are chips in the paint from use, as I had the bed stripped and painted over ten years ago, so t is some wear on the paint. However, you can either strip and repaint the bed, keep it original or just touch up the chips. Additionally, the brass balls are slightly dented in place, but original. You are bidding on three pieces: a headboard, footboard and the frame. The headboard and footboard fit into knuckles on the frame...I've included one picture to show the area on the head/foot board w it would be fitted into the frame. This is for pick up only in Long Beach, NY. I have been asked if I would ship this bed, to which I say that I would be willing to but I expect that it would be quite costly, although I would do it. Please remember that you are bidding to purchase the bed, not to view it so if you would like any additional information or pictures, please ask! I've set a price of $500.00 for this priceless bed and you are free and invited to send me your best reasonable offer. Thank you very much for looking!! CASH ONLY I've included a little synopsis of the time period in which this bed was produced: Queen Victoria ruled Great Britain from 1837 until her death in 1901. This period has become known as the Victorian Age. However, although America was influenced by her former mother country during this era, such cultural diffusion took time. As a result, many historians place the American Victorian Age roughly between 1876, when Reconstruction was coming to a conclusion and the country celebrated its centennial, and 1914, the year World War I began. The main theme of the Victorian Age in America is change. Transformations were dramatic, rapid, and far-reaching. The Victorian Age saw the admission of 12 new states, which doubled its geography. Americans voted on 10 different constitutional amendments, seven of which were law by 1920. The country's population doubled, as did the number of foreign-born citizens. Americans were becoming more diverse, more urban, and more mobile. Although the Civil War was over, tensions persisted between the increasingly industrial North and the rebuilding, agrarian South. Reconstruction took place from 1865 until 1877, when federal troops completely withdrew from the South. The Southern agrarian economy continued, and the cotton industry in particular rose again after the war. However, not all Southerners embraced their return to the Union, even after their defeat. Subsequent leaders attempted to build one American nation. During the Civil War, the North pushed industrial development in order to bolster the war effort. The result was an industrial revolution that far surpassed any expectations. The industrial revolution created a domino effect of change in America. The industrial boom led to a rising middle class of workers who were the backbone of the rising industries. The workers increasingly unionized and began to confront management on issues such as wages and work hours. Workers fought back with strikes such as the 1894 Pullman Strike. Big business w...
