Overland Models Norfolk and Western S Scale Class A 2-6-6-4 Along with the C&Os 2-6-6-6 , the Norfolk & Western's Class A 2-6-6-4 were the ultimate Super Power steam locomotives. Following the Super Power concept developed by Lima Locomotives, the N&W built 43 of these locos starting in 1936 through 1950. These engines were very successful and provided excellent service for this coal hauler. They lasted to 1960 when finally taken over by diesels. Along with their J 4-8-4s, these 2-6-6-4s were the pride of the railroad. In the 1980s the N&W restored #1218 2-6-6-4 to service for tourist and business train specials. This lasted until 1991 when both operational 4-8-4 #611 and #1218 were offically retired and put on display in the Virginia Rail Museum in Roanoke. I included a photo of #1218 in action. In the early 1990s, Overland imported a series of S Scale engines and this was the "Top-Gun". This model was built by Ajin of Korea one of the premier builders of that time. The craftsmanship is superb, construction is robust, operationally it is super smooth and quiet, and the detail is amazing. This model was owned by a collector, shows no use and is in perfect condition. The finish is perfect. The original box and foam are perfect.
