Unusual small brass paperweight in the shape of a very heavy Chubb Vault Door. Solid brass with small steel bolts around the 4 edges of the door. Has been polished-up for years so has a nice bright finish all over including the ends of the tiny steel bolts. I think it might actually be based on a real door- possibly one made for the Bank Of England during the 1950s or 60s as I can remember seeing one similar in an old Chubb Anniversary Book by Noel Currier-Briggs. Amazingly from what I remember the door really was that thick!! Measures approx 35mm High x 33mm Wide x 28mm thick overall- See UK £1 coin for size comparison. Weight approx 161g. The base is flat but quite rough- See 4th pic below- Has no detail where the handles and hinges etc would be, so I've always assumed it's intended to lay flat with this face down as in the 2nd pic, but it looks far better when stood upright as below. Always guaranteed interest for your shop counter, collection or desk! I've collected quite a few safe and vault curios and ornaments like this, including some American cannonball safes one which has a fully working door and mechanism.
