This brass lantern belonged to my father. I don't have a solid history on it other then it has been in the family for over thirty years. From the top of the swiveling handle to the bottom it is about 12.5" tall and it is about 6" wide. T are 4 glass panels that are retained by brass U channels. The top flips open after loosening the brass knurled screw shown in the picture. Once open, the wick container can be lifted out for servicing and lighting. The long handle allows replacing the lit wick without burning your hand. This lantern has never been lit, nor filled with oil. T is a wick that can be adjusted for flame size. I don't know much more than what I have listed. I imagine lanterns such as this were used in various train cars...possibly from the locomotive engine, dining, sleeping cabins or even the caboose. T are no markings or stamps to help identify it. If t is a train enthusiasist in the family I am sure they would love to have this lantern. The romance of a locomotive... the clickety clackety of the wheels going down the tracks...the gently swaying of an oil lantern as it glows with a soft light...illuminating the rich wood and fabrics of a dining car. I imagine that is why Dad always kept this lantern around. Bidding starts at one penny. Have fun and if you have any questions, please contact me as early as possible read more
