Brave Men by Ernie Pyle signed in ink (as shown)This is a first printing from 1944 and signed by famous war journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Ernie Pyle. He wrote in a folksy way that the American people could understand. First hand accounting of battles and the lives of soldiers in the field.The book does not have a jacket cover but there are no torn pages and it is intact. There is some slight wearing on the bottom of the binding. This is a war time book which means everything had to be approved by the US government. I had a problem getting my final picture loaded which has the marking with an eagle with a banner Books are weapons in the war of ideas. This was printed in the United States of America. Also enclosed with the book with be a two page full story about Ernie Pyle from Oct 1986 in the Bioomington Indiana newspaper.Ernie Pyle was killed in battle on April of 1945 in le Jima or known at that time as Shinma. A small island North West of Okinawa. Mrs. Roosevelt personally came to the spot where he was buried with his hat on. Mr. Pyle had stories in over 300 newspapers and died in combat alongside other troops. He was later returned to the United States and buried in Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery. He was awarded the purple heart in 1983 which was a rare honor. He was with the 77th Army Division upon his death.The read more
