This Great specimen is, a 51.4 gram Brenham Pallasite Polished Slice with a Walnut Base, and a Brenham Name Plate, that you are bidding on. It is from a recent recovery found by Steve Arnold in Kiowa County Kansas., near the large end of the strewn field. The specifications for this meteorite are as follows: 51.4 grams, 5 mm X 41 mm X 71 mm. This meteorite comes with a Certificate of Authenticity / Kansas Meteorite Society Specimen Card. This unique piece has been polished to a mirror finish. We take great care in handling these rare pieces by not allowing any water in the cutting and polishing process. Brenham was first recognized as a meteorite in 1882 by F.W. Cragen of Washburn University in Kansas. Since that time over 6 tons has been recovered from Kiowa County Kansas. Pallasites are thought to originate in the boundary between the core and the mantle of large asteroids. They are considered to be the most attractive of all the meteorites, being composed of olivine and peridot crystals embedded in a iron/nickel matrix. Although olivine itself is not considered to be a gemstone and has a history that extends back over 4000 years. Peridot. is mentioned in the bible and was referred to in ancient time as "evening emerald", and was reported to be the favorite gemstone of Cleopatra. Although olivine, typically yellow to orange in color, is common in the Brenham pallasite, the green peridot crystals are more rare, and more collectible. As with all Meteorites that have an iron/nickel matrix, are suspectable to rust. To keep your specimen from tarnishing or rusting, us the polishing cloth that we have supplied with your specimen. Place the specimen on a flat surface and gently rub with any metal polish, like Brasso or Peek, then buff to a high gloss, clean area off with the polishing cloth
