Brett Weston Stone with Lichen, Japan, 1970 vintage gelatin silver print From the Portfolio: "Fifteen Photographs of Japan" published in 1970. Weston visited Japan only once, in 1970, and produced the Japan portfolio that same year. Besides new subjects and textures, he was fascinated with Japanese architecture, design, and calligraphy, and he seems also to have absorbed something of the style of Japanese art. The print is in excellent condition. Signed and dated by the artist on the mount recto. Gallery prices for Brett Weston photographs start at $3,500. Artist Biography American, 1911 - 1993 Inspired to take his first picture at the age of fourteen, Brett Weston has since become world renowned as a photographer. His rich and descriptive photographs embody the tradition of the f/64 photographers. They are within every major museum's collection and in innumerable private collections. Weston has had six monographs published, as well as seventeen limited portfolios. He was also the recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship.
