Urlacher, a four time Pro Bowler, has not only defined himself as one of the League's most productive linebackers, but also as an iconic figure for the Chicago Bears. He is also a member of the infamous Monsters of the Midway. "Monsters of the Midway" was revived for the dominant Chicago Bears defense of 1985. That year the Bears went 15-1 in the regular season. (Their one loss, being whomped by the Miami Dolphins in a Monday Night Football game, was apparently due to fatigue following the taping of "The Super Bowl Shuffle".) In the playoffs the Bears posted two shutouts against the New York Giants (21-0) and the Los Angeles Rams (24-0). This culminated in the Super Bowl, win they spotted the New England Patriots a field goal, then went on to defeat them 46-10. The 1985 Bears defense was ranked first in the NFL in points allowed and also yards allowed. "Monsters of the Midway" is also used as a nickname for three of the greats who have played linebackers for the Bears: Brian Urlacher, Dick Butkus, and Mike Singletary. Famous Sports Artist Andy Goralski Walter Payton, John Elway, Brett Favre, Bart Starr and Brian Urlacher. What do these athletes all have in common? All of them have had the portraits painted by Andy Goralski. Born and raised in Wisconsin , âeoeAndyâe developed an interest in art at an early age. Goralski has always been a passionate sports fan. Andyâe(tm)s trademark ability to paint lifelike portraits has brought him to national prominence in recent years, and his originals hang in the homes of many top athletes around the country. âeoeI try to capture the heart of the athlete Iâe(tm)m painting,âe he explains âeoeFor many of the people who collect my work, the players are like family. They see them on TV almost every day. They know what they look like from all angles. Thatâe(tm)s why itâe(tm)s so important to paint them as realistically as possible,âe he adds Although adept in both oils and acrylics, Andy prefers to work in pastels, a trait that also sets him apart, since many artists shy away from this often difficult to use medium. âeoePastels can be hard to control and it can be difficult to maintain detail with them, although Iâe(tm)m convinced that the natural texture of a persons face cannot be achieved with other mediumsâe Andy explains. Each work is done one layer at a time. Andy begins by sanding a heavy-weight museum-quality paper until he achieves the proper âeoetooth.âe He then meticulously layers pigments to achieve the desired effect. His unique layered style allows his works to take on a three dimensional quality. Pastels are pure pigment, the same pigment used to manufacture oil and acrylic paints, without a liquid binder. Since they are not composed of liquid, pastels can last virtually forever. Acrylics and oils are subject to cracking and fading as they age. In recent years, many of Andyâe(tm)s prints have been so well accepted by collectors that several editions have been sold out. Some prints are difficult to find and may be priced today well above their original issue price. âeoeCollectabilityâe is a crucial part of Goralski portfolio. âeoeWe want our collectors to benefit from a strong aftermarket. We sincerely hope that all editions will sell out; then our collectors have an opportunity to resell their prints for more then what they paid initially. Even if they choose not to resell their prints, they apprec...
