Britains Racing Colours horse & jockey. 100% original. No repairs or touch ups. Hollow lead, Britains original. This is the rarer version of the Lord Rosebery colours of primrose (yellow) and rose hoops. This version was one of the first six in the set that Britains released in 1926 and had catalogue number 237. A later, and slightly more common, version of the Lord Rosebery colours was released in the 1930's. The second version featured multi hooped silks, but this original version from Britains is predominantly rose with a single thicker yellow hoop to the body and sleeves. The Norman Joplin book "Britains Civilians Toy Figures" has a study of both versions in the Racing Colours chapter. The end of the jockey's whip is missing. There are small paint chips all over the jockey but no major damage. Brim of cap, front of neck scarf and left knee probably the worst affected areas. Check photo's out and see what you think. This condition is typical of the older pieces from this series. Gives it some antique character if you ask me! The horse is the correct pre-war version (no nose band) to suit this jockey and has the characterstic 'reddish' mouth and nostrils of an early 1920's version. Legs and ears nice and straight, reins intact, small paint chips in places and small marking to saddle (but not visible when jockey in place). read more
