BEESTON, NOTTS POST OFFICE GPO REGISTRATION No. 280 CARRIES AN ORIGINAL "BBC" /"PMG" (TYPE APPROVED BY POSTMASTER GENERAL ) TRANSFER / DECAL / STAMP EARLIEST TYPE + ERICSSON 'SIGNATURE' LOGO ON TOP OF LID + AN UNIQUE (to this model) CIRCULAR RETAINING LATCH + ORIGINAL OPERATING INSTRUCTION SHEET + PERFECT, ORIGINAL AND COMPLETE GLASS DETECTOR COVER,FOR OPTIMUM PROTECTION AND VISIBILITY OF THE DETECTOR INTRODUCED IN 1923 The quality of the British crystal radio during the 1920s was the best in the world, and the UK Government's edict that ALL radio manufacturers, however small, must register and licence their product with the British Postmaster General, and in turn allocated a (PMG Approved) number, means that British wireless crystal receivers are the most sought-after technology collectable - anywhere!Manufactured in 1923, this extremely desirable find was introduced during the earliest days of the craze following the technological discovery in crystal wireless, soon after the commencement of broadcasting at the BBC. CONDITION REPORT Excellent cosmetic condition throughout, The ebonite panel is flawless, with no hints of stress at any of the screwholes. It boasts original terminals, whilst both the central control knob and celluloid halfmoon tuning scale (unusually) have no dings or chips at all. The original detector, with course and threaded fine adjustment, carries its original detector arm/tickler , cat's whisker and galena rock, all enclosed within an original glass tube for maximum protection, efficiency, and visibility. Clear unworn printing of the logo, and 'aerial', 'earth', 'tune' and 'phones'. There are no breaks, no splits, no cracks, no dings to the OAK cabinet, which has strong graining, and only minimal loss to the original finish. The top has a couple of small darker marks/stains. The original ERICSSON BEESTON NOTTS logo and the original BBC (PMG approved) logo are both in good order, with some loss to both . The circular latch is unique to this model, working as it should, as do both hinges, with the lid closing flush. The operating instructions/directions sheet in the lid is above average, with some 'wax'(?) residue and a couple of tiny holes ! Clear and vibrant, there are NO tears around the rim. Little if anything seems to have been done to the extremely clean-and-tidy engine room inside, indeed it is as good as I've seen, and appears to be totally original.
