British officer's spontoon ca 1750-1780 on original haft.Classic form,71 inches overall with a 10-1/2 inch blade which is threaded to fit the haft mount.Cross bar missing.Mount has reinforcing rings & side straps screwed to the haft,which is square in form & was shortened long ago by about a foot.The haft has a curve, & a crack, which is solid.Rarely found on the original haft.I acquired this piece years ago from William Fagan Arms & Armor,still in business & on the internet.Trench & Indian War to American Revolution period.
