British Pattern 1888 MK1 bayonet, 2 nd type, by Sanders, Sheffield This bayonet will fit Lee-Metford Mark I cal .303 rifle adopted in1888 as well as Lee-Enfield rifle adopted in1895. It measures roughly 16", the blade is 11 ½". This bayonet has all kinds of markings: On the blade ricasso: Ø Left side: 3.96 over SANDERSON SHEFFIELD, Ø Right side: WD ( War Department) and Broad Arrow /I above the Crown over B over 26. Below all of that a large X. Ø On the blade edge at the base: two inspection stamps, each with the Crown and letter S and numbers: 70 and 73 (I think). On the pommel: G.06 V I.LD 136 (or 736) The blade has just about all of its blue finish and both edges look machine sharpened; right side has a few darker specks, one really has to look for them to see, small areas of very slight and shallow bubbling on both sides (barely visible with magnifying glass). Guard: bright and shiny, no signs of rust. Handle shows normal signs of use; pommel looks good in its brown finish, with working release knob, wood grips with no major damage, just normal surface wear. Overall Condition: Very Good (I really had to get down with the magnifying glass to be able to see the described faults). No scabbard. ______________________________________________________________________________ Do read descriptions and check photos carefully, read more
