British ( Scotland ) Silver Table Snuff Box Edinburgh - 1832 - James Nasmyth For auction from the family estate: Sterling Silver Table Snuff Box Rectangular, engine-turned decoration on all sides, rounded corners, gilt interior, running hare (rabbit on the lid catch), engraved square cartouche (which reads): JM to BM Interior Bottom Hallmark: Duty Mark (Monarch head William IV), Thistle ( Sterling ), JN (James Nasmyth), Towers (Edinburgh), A (1832) Interior Lid Hallmark: Repeat of above but the first three are on the left side and the second two on the right side Measurements: 3 3/8" length 1 ¼" width 1" exterior height 7/8" interior depth Condition: (refer to photos) Fair estate condition; engine turned decoration very worn; interior repair (soldering in one corner); several breaks; interior vermeil is present but not bright; hinge is tight The best feature of this snuff box is the running hare on the lid catch. It is quite wonderful. I will be happy to send additional pictures, if requested. All sales are final.
