Very nice WW1 British Victory medal with original ribbon to a man in the 9th London Regiment. Medal is in excellent condtion with most of the gilt finish left on the medal. It is officially impressed to: 3699 Pte. F.P. Rudge. 9-Lond.R.. I am including a photo copy of his Medal Index Card from the British National Archives and a printout of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website listing for him. Rifleman Frank Percy Rudge was a member of the 1st/9th Bn. London Regiment( Queen Victoria's Rifles) and was killed on July 1, 1916 during the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He is listed on the Thiepval Memorial in France. July 1, 1916 was the first day of the Somme Offensive and was the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army. They had 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 dead! Private Rudge's medal index card shows he was entitled to a 1914/15 Star and British War medal whose wabouts I do not know.
