Product British 1914-15 Star Medal Trio Awarded To 20491 Pte. John Worrell, Of Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry & Royal Army Medical Corps. Lot includes 1914/15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal photocopy medal card & some service papers. A 22 year old Labourer from Hessle Rd in Hull, Mr Worrell enlisted in the KOYLI in May 1915. He served in Mudros, Egypt and France, probably with the 12th "Miners" Bn of the KOYLI. He was wounded in June 1917, suffering a GSW to the small of his back. I believe this prompted a transfer to the RAMC (37234). His full entitlement is on offer here. Name and number correctly impressed on all medals. Information The 1914-15 Star (Pip) was awarded to those who served in a theatre of war between 5.8.1914 and 31.12.1915, except those who had already qualified for a 1914 Star. The British War Medal (Squeak) was originally issued to all who had rendered service between 1914-1918, later this was extended to include 1919-1920 (mine clearing and operations in Russia). The Victory medal ("Wilfred") follows a design agreed upon at Versailles in 1919. The medal is in lacquered bronze and shows a winged victory holding a palm branch.
