Main Product Description: The knife you see in the pictures is the one your bidding upon. Amboynia Handle with Mosaic Pins and lanyard hole. General Information about the Mini-Northstar: The knife is made by Bark River Knife & Tool, a USA company owned by Mike Stewart. Mike has a long history in knife making with roots running back to Marble's Knives, Blackjack Knives, and still makes some knives under contract for other name brands as well, such as for AG Rusell (who has a long history in the knife business and the clubs in the US). So you can be sure that the products that you receive made by Mike are of high quality. This knife design was made on the request of the forum called and so displays the KF logo on one side of the blade. It came about a few months after the release of the North Star itself. The knife is a ideal size for a day out hiking or a weekend camp trip. Some of the members on the forum wanted a smaller lightweight pack style knife for their day out hikes and lightweight camping trips, thus the Mini-Northstar was born. The blade is made of 12c27 Sandvik steel. This steel is a common one found in many knives produced in Sweden and Europe. BRKT triple heat treats this steel and then does a cryo treatment to bring the hardness rating to 58RC. This results in a superior edge holding capability and grain refinement within the composition of the steel. Sandvick is a stainless steel that has a higher corrosion tolerance (rust resistance) than other steel with similar properties. So between the edge holding and the corrosion tolerance you can see that this does make for a great outdoor knife. The blade on the Mini-Northstar is 3-3/8 inches long with a thickness of .118 inch. ( 8.5cm long and 3mm thick). Most bushcraft and light camp knives are sized from 3.25 to 4 inches in length. So this one does come to the smaller end of the scale. Don't let the size fool you though, it will take on some tough task that you otherwise may only attempt with larger knives. Remember as well this knife was designed for lightweight trips and day out hikes. The Mini-Northstar handle is a 3.75 inches long (9.7cm) and is roughly 1/2 inch thick (1.3cm). I say "roughly" as the handles on these knives are hand shaped, so their will be some varience between each knife made. Not much, but they could be a shade over or under. The handle is contoured to fit the hand nicely and was tested prior to production (like all of BRKT mainstream production models are) to make sure that prolonged use didn't result in finger cramps and hotspots/blisters. Any suggested changes by the testers were done and the knives tested again. Like that of it big brother, the Mini-Northstar has the grooves located in the spine and on the choil, this adds grip to the knife. The edge on the blade is a full convex grind. With it being convex this allows the blade to be easily sharpened in the field. Experienced people will know that a convex edge will hold an edge longer than any other grind style, that it is extremely easy to keep sharp, and cuts like a laser. Unlike a hollow grind and flat grind knives a convex grind has little resistance when slicing through material. The best way to think of a convex grind is to picture a splitting wedge with a very sharp edge. It is in a narrow "V" shape compared to others that are much wider. The wider the V the more resistance the blade incurs and the more pressure mus...
