Ballantyne Bell

1987 Annual - Dorothy in the Land of Oz

This item is from the estate of my 93-year-old mother-in-law, Phyllis Allen, who passed away in June of 2006. I have a complete set of same number (#164) ANNUAL (no specials) Ballantyne bells. Since I have not found a serious buyer for the complete set, I have decided to sell these bells individually.

Ballantyne Bells are handmade by the "Lost Wax Process" and cast in silicon bronze. They are limited editions of subperb craftsmanship. T is exquisite detail to the figural handles as well as intricate associated designs on the bases/bell-skirts. Rather than try to describe these details for each different bell, I will let the pictures do the talking.

One annual Ballantyne was produced each year from 1972 thru 1996 (they are very collectible and no longer being made). Ballantyne bells are all signed and numbered and have the Ballantyne logo on the clapper. T is one thing of interest regarding the Ballantyne numbering system; Gerry Ballantyne limited his editions but did not always produce the entire number of bells at which the limit was set. So it is possible to have a bell that is signed, for example, #150/300 when in reality only 250 bells were actually made. I have a list of the numbers of bells that were actually made each year and will provide that number in the listing when it is different than the number signed on the bell.

Dorothy is the 1987 annual bell. The bell-skirt shows Dorothy and Toto along with Scarecrow, Tinman & Lion...and also shows Dorothy's house on the backside. This highly collectible, limited edition bell is signed and numbered 164/300 but only 257 of these bells were actually produced.
