Bronze Buddha Bust from Thailand Chiang Saen / Chiangsaen Style

Early Chiang Saen Style, 13th century guaranteed

Material: Old Bronze made in lost wax method

Size: 12,5 cm high (16,5 cm incl. stand), 7,5 cm large, 4,5 cm deep

This bronze sculpture displays an image of Lord Buddha in early Chiangsaen (Chiang Saen) style. Chiangsaen was one of the earliest kingoms of early Siam/Thailand. The image can easily being identified as an early Chiang Sean style Buddha sculpture by the short end of the robe and the final of the hair knot.

The meditative facial expression, emphasized by the half closed eyes which look downward, and the dignified repose of the body are supposed to call to mind the Buddha in meditation under the Bodhi-tree in the second week of his enlightement.

The item has a beautiful 13th century burial patina. Budha sculptures from the early Chiangsaen time are among the rarest Buddha items from South East Asia and specially from Thailand .

This small sculpture is a beautiful art object for any serious Buddha collection.
