This unusual, large modernistic crucifix plaque was original acquired in Spain in the 1950s. The lady we purchased it from did not remember the artist's name who created it, but it is signed on the lower right corner of the bronze plaque with what looks like "SK" within a jar form. The total dimensions, including the carved wood backboard are 22 5/8" high, 10 ¼" wide, about 2 7/8" total depth and with a weight of just over 8 lbs. This piece has several different components which I will describe. A dish shape, rectangular bronze plaque is mounted to a larger wood backboard and raised about it slightly on four small legs. This dish is covered in all areas with interesting stylized figures with raised outlines that are filled with white enamel. Many different activities are represented by these figures, including a motorcyclist, sports games, dinner table and several angels, and none are repeated. Above the plaque is an attached bronze Christ figure which is fully dimensional, with upraised hands, red enameled clothing and an enameled heart on the chest. The Christ figure has exaggerated elongation and is nicely detailed. The wood backboard has an inset bronze cross which continues to the edges and intersects beneath the Christ figure.
