Rare antique bronze sculpture depicting a fox and a stork match holder and striker. This is an exquisite composition, artist signed J. Moigniez. Jules Moigniez 1835-1894 is considered one of the finest and most talented French sculptors who specialized and sculptured almost exclusively animals and birds. One of his sculptures sold last year at Sotheby's for over $20,000. He has auction records for many sculptures selling in the five figure range. The one that we are offering is bronze and gilt bronze. It has an extremely lifelike fox and stork sculptured into the composition of the match striker. The match holder part has a gilt bronze insert. The bottom part of the base is gilt bronze. The rest of the sculpture is a dark to medium bronze color with green highlights. This is an extremely rare match striker. The only one of this model we have seen. Width at base 5-1/2 inches, height of sculpture 4-1/2 inches. Excellent original condition.
