Leopard Battle Tank
Carl Poellath - Schrobenhausen Bronze or Copper[?] 100mm [8mm t hick] The Leopard [or Leopard 1] is a German designed and produced main battle tank that first entered service in 1965 and was used as the main battle tank for Germany, several other European countries, Australia, Canada, Brazil and Chile. It is a fairly conventional design, armed with a German-built version of the British L7 105-mm gun. The Leopard is known for its good cross-country speed. The design started as a collaborative project between Germany and France in the 1950s, but the partnership ended and the final design was ordered by the Bundeswehr, production starting in 1965. In total 6485 Leopard tanks have been built, of which 4744 were battle tanks and 1741 were utility and anti-aircraft variants, not including eighty prototypes and pre-series vehicles. Since 1990, the Leopard 1 has gradually been relegated to secondary roles in most armies. In the German Army, the Leopard 1 MBTs have been phased out in 2003 while Leopard 1 derived vehicles are still widely used. The Leopard 2 MBTs have taken over the MBT role. The Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co KG [KMW] or simply Krauss-Maffei : An injection molding machine manufacturer and defense company based in Germany . The company produces various types of equipment as well as railroad locomotives, tanks, self-propelled artillery and other armoured vehicles. Krauss-Maffei was formed in 1931 from a merger of the two Munich firms of Maffei [founded 1838] and Krauss & Co. [founded 1860]. Both belonged to the leading German makers of locomotives of various types. Maffei also built other steam-operated vehicles and, later, manufactured vehicles with combustion engines, including locomotives and buses until the 1950s. In the 1960s, Krauss-Maffei built several examples of diesel-hydraulic locomotives for demonstration and testing on American railroads. Southern Pacific Railroad and Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad participated in the tests, but both found the locomotives unsuitable for service in the rugged Rocky Mountains through which the two railroads ran. 1963 the company started production of the Leopard tank, 1973 production of Leopard 2. In the seventies they were involved in the development of the Transrapid magnetic levitation train. In 1999 the company fused with Mannesmann DEMAG. The production of armored vehicles was joined with the company Wegmann to Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. Carl Poellath :Established in 1778 during the reign of Joseph II, German Emperor of Holy Roman Empire , Carl Poellath started the production of high quality medals, uniform insignias, church souvenirs and badges. It is highly regarded for its excellent minting and finishing processes. From the very beginning the company was located in Schrobenhausen, which is in the heartland of Bavaria , not far from the Bavarian capital Munich . In 1825 King Maximilian I, Joseph of Bavaria and his wife Karoline presented two bronze-alabaster-medallions as “awards of honour” to the company. A close relationship with the Catholic Church in late 19th century saw Carl Poellath become the main supplier of church insignias. The industrial revolution together with changes in the German military structures resulted in the opening of new markets for the company. Products now included uniform insignia, prestigious medals & medallions as awards for honors and rank markings. At the end of the 19th century Carl Poellath extended his operations into the arts and received several awards at the world exhibition in Brussels 1873 for outstanding medal designs. The local town museum in Schrobenhausen displays a collection of Poellath masterpieces. The company continues to produce high quality honour awards, mementoes, medals, historic replicas, commemorative coins, coats of arms, decorations, plaques, badges, tie pins, key rings, signs and corporate logos. * All Items sold AS IS - NO RETURNS * Please ask all questions prior to purchase * ...
