This item was sold to me as Sevres. I could not find this mark in any of my references that would let me say that this is Sevres. The mark more closely resembles that of one of the many Samson marks-this one being used on Sevres reproductions. Kovels places the mark in use from 1927 to 1941. The whole thing, with the bronze, is 8 by 15 and 2 inches high. No matter whom the maker, someone valued this plate and has taken good care of it. This piece is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, scratches or crazing. T are a few small spots of green on the bronze but t is some nice detail work on those handles. The close-up of the handle shows the worst area for the green corrosion, and the photo makes it look worse than it really is. On the back of each handle is a P stamped into the metal. The artist has painted a very nice scene with great detail (signature near the lady's foot), and t is a heavy raised gilt decoration on the rim of the plate. Just because it is not Sevres doesn't mean that it is junk! Many Samson pieces have fetched nice prices. Questions : Please email me early with your questions!
